Paul Amiel has been playing the Guqin for a while. In 2003, he went to Nanjing, China to study with master Chen Gongliang. He plays about 20 pieces.
Andrew Wilt was enthralled by the Guqin and its sound ever since he taught English in China in 1994. Finally, in 2005, he bought an instrument while in China. Unfortunately, he had no clue how to make music on the thing. In October 2005, he met Paul Amiel, who was performing at the Tucson Chinese Cultural Center for the Mid-Autumn festival. Andrew plucked up the courage to go talk to Paul and the Tucson Guqin club was born.
The club now meets every Sunday morning at the Temple of Harmonious Harmony (Andrew's living room) for coffee and Guqin music. So far the club has learned Xian Weng Cao, Qiu Feng Ci, Xiang Jiang Yuan, and Yang Guan San Die.
On Paul's recent visit to New York, he had the chance to meet with some members of the New York Gu Qin Society, including their president Yuan Jungping.
Recently I came across the famous Erhu piece, Er Quan Ying Yue (The Moon Reflected in the Two Spring Pools), played by Guqin Er Quan Ying Yue. The sheet music for the piece is below.
